Instructor Level I
Zhi Yong is a level one instructor at the Ottawa Traditional Shaolin Kung Fu Centre.
He has been training in the art of Shaolin Kung Fu since February 2000, and continuously strives to become stronger by sharpening his skills under the guidance of his Master, Sifu Ly.
In October 2001 Zhi Yong and several other classmates at the Ottawa Traditional Shaolin Kung Fu Centre competed in the Canadian Wushu-Kung Fu Challenge in Toronto, Canada. Zhi Yong won the title of Grand Champion in the traditional Kung Fu’s adult division, along with 1 gold medal and 2 silver medals.
In 2004 Zhi Yong and two of his Kung Fu brothers, Zhi Yi and Zhi Yan, had the honor of becoming closed-door students of Sifu Ly. Since then Zhi Yong has spent many hours instructing his fellow classmates and assisting the school in whatever capacity he can.
In the same year Zhi Yong, along with Sifu Ly and other classmates, traveled to Vietnam to visit the main branch where his Sifu trained for many years. This trip was very influential for Zhi Yong, broadening his awareness and appreciation of the martial arts world. During the trip Zhi Yong and Kung Fu brother Zhi Yan were honored with private lessons from Si Pak Master Lam Thi Quoc, Sifu Ly’s older Kung Fu brother.
In September 2008 Zhi Yong, along with Kung Fu brother Zhi Yan, was hired by the City of Ottawa to teach an entry-level class to youth and adults at the McNabb Community Centre.
Through these endeavors Zhi Yong is able to introduce the art of Shaolin Kung Fu to the non-martial arts community.
