Instructor Level I
Zhi Yi's first martial arts experience was Tae Kwon Do at the age of 12. An unsettled child, his training lasted only one year when he was diverted by another new activity. While Zhi Yi enjoyed a number of seasonal sports, none truly captured his interest enough for him to fully commit to it.
In the summer of 2000 Zhi Yi's good friend and now elder Kung Fu brother, JP, introduced him to Master Ly at the Ottawa Traditional Shaolin Kung Fu Centre. Zhi Yi was attracted to the rigorous physical demands of the southern China tiger style taught at the school, and admired the sense of family and community within the club.
But it was in the fall of 2001, when he travelled to Vietnam with Master Ly and three of his Fung Fu brothers, that Zhi Yi developed a more profound relationship with Chinese martial arts and culture.
In 2004, Sifu Ly accepted Zhi Yi as a closed-door disciple and junior instructor, along with his two other Kung Fu brothers Zhi Yong and Zhi Yan. Zhi Yi strives to serve Master Ly and the school in whatever capacity he can, whether instructing other club members or assisting with administrative duties.
